Greater Manchester is leading the way in devolution, shaping new approaches to governance and public service delivery. Our ambition is to improve the lives of all who live and work in the city region, ensuring they have access to opportunities for health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

It is an exciting time to work in communications in Greater Manchester, where our vision for the future is built around inclusive growth, sustainability, and social impact. These roles within the Communications and Engagement team will play a key part in supporting a broad range of strategic priorities:

  • Role 1: Two Communications and Engagement Senior Officers supporting the Place, Public Service Reform, and Environment directorate. We are looking for two skilled and motivated communications professionals to help tell the story of our work from achieving net zero by 2038 and increasing the supply of quality homes, to tackling rough sleeping and raising housing standards. You will also help bring to life our efforts to support people at every stage of life, from children and young people to older residents, while promoting our thriving culture, night-time economy, and vibrant communities. This role offers a varied and dynamic workload that reflects the depth and diversity of projects and partnerships across the city-region.
  • Role 2: Communications and Engagement Senior Officer supporting the Connected Homes, Inclusive Places project. This new role is focused on delivering connected homes projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with public and industry partners to explore how digital connectivity can benefit Greater Manchester residents and drive initiatives within the social housing sector. Key responsibilities include coordinating resident and stakeholder engagement across project partners and developing the project's narrative in line with the Greater Manchester Digital Blueprint's goal of creating connected, inclusive, and sustainable places. This outward-facing, dynamic, and fast-paced role will contribute to achieving high-profile GMCA ambitions.

The roles are all fixed term for nine months but could be extended beyond this term. Collaboration is at the heart of our approach. The successful postholders will help to build and nurture relationships across GMCA, as well as with external stakeholders including local authorities, government bodies, community groups, and businesses. By working together, we can deliver meaningful change for the 3 million residents who call Greater Manchester home.

As Communications and Engagement Senior Officer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering and supporting communications and engagement across a range of key policy areas.

For the Place, Public Sector Reform and Environment roles we are looking for a professional with:

  • Experience of devising and implementing campaigns, communications and engagement action plans for external and internal audiences.
  • Experience of producing engaging digital content for multiple channels.
  • Video editing and production skills.
  • Experience in campaigns, media relations, digital communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience of evaluating/measuring success and an ability to use evidence to guide decision making for future communications activity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships and collaborate effectively across different sectors.
  • The ability to work autonomously, manage multiple priorities, and make informed decisions.

For the Connected Homes, Inclusive Places role we are looking for a professional with:

  • Experience developing and leading engagement projects with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a project environment across organisational boundaries.
  • A natural collaborator, adept at building relationships.
  • An effective team player with the energy to have an impact and the sensitivity to do so constructively.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and assess insights from diverse communities.
  • Crucial experience in narrative development and creating communications for engagement activities (e.g., fliers, compelling invite text, graphic design work).
  • Advantageous: Experience in social media, press, or wider media.
  • Highly desirable: Experience working with social housing providers.

These roles require a proactive, adaptable, and creative individual who is passionate about making a difference in Greater Manchester. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to contribute to shaping the region's future, we would love to hear from you.
