About us Xterna develops cell-specific binders composed of modified nucleic acids (eg. XNAs) to deliver drug cargo with accuracy. Our methodology enables candidate screening with unprecedented speed and modularity in vitro and in vivo . Xterna is now expanding beyond its founding team, searching for individuals matched to our core values: compassion, integrity and scientific curiosity (and if you are obsessed with nucleic acids or targeted delivery, welcome ). Responsibilities Establishing in vitro assays to validate candidates – may include assays to investigate on-target binding, cell killing effects, cell activation or half-life assays. Document and communicate results in a timely and clear manner using our ELN, and perform research with high scientific rigor. Remain knowledgeable in the field, keeping up to date in the fields of nucleic acids and cell targeting applications. To act as a mentor and a mentee in both professional development and technical training to members of the team. Contributing to day-to-day lab running– such as monitoring stock to aid timely ordering and contributing to SOP and RA writing. Need-to-have PhD or relevant degree with 2-3yrs hands on experience (eg in the fields of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, RNA targeting). Experience with tissue culture (such as immortalised cancer cell lines). Experience in flow cytometry and use of FlowJo for analysis. Experience in establishing and executing cell-based assays. Self-motivated, scientifically curious and excited to work in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented, organised, with exceptional communication and presentation skills. Driven and excited by challenge, and open to change. In a start-up things can quickly change; we may pivot, and you may suddenly need to develop a new skill set. This should excite you. Right to work in the UK, unfortunately at this time we cannot support visa applications. Nice-to-have Experience with primary cell culture Experience with stable cell line generation Expertise in measurements by ELISA, EMSA or SPR. Repertoire of cell based assays including binding, killing, internalisation and stability. Experience in handing and manipulating nucleic acids, eg oligos or aptamers. A track record of scientific publication (journals, patents). You’ll love this role if You want to work in a small team. We are currently a team of 4, you’ll still find the CSO with you at the bench.
