The Royal Hospital for Women is a multi‑faced tertiary referral and teaching hospital, internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading centres for the care of mothers, babies, and women with benign gynaecological and gynae‑oncology conditions. As the only stand‑alone women’s hospital in New South Wales, it offers unique opportunities for innovative clinical practice and is committed to delivering excellence in women’s health care through both practice and ongoing research.

Part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD), the hospital is co‑located with other major facilities on the Randwick Hospitals Campus—one of the State’s most comprehensive health care precincts, supporting collaboration and expertise across specialties.

Ideally situated between the University of New South Wales and Coogee Beach, the Royal Hospital for Women is just 15 minutes from Sydney’s Central Business District and harbour. Its proximity to some of Sydney’s best beaches, restaurants, and sporting facilities offers staff the added benefit of a vibrant lifestyle alongside a rewarding and supportive professional environment.

The Role

The vision for midwifery at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) is to provide exceptional, evidence‑based care that empowers women and birthing people. The Registered Midwife, Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) is responsible for delivering high‑quality, individualised, woman‑centred care to a caseload of women or birthing persons within a continuity of care model. The MGP Midwife develops strong partnerships with multidisciplinary teams including Child and Family Health Services. The midwife works with the responsibility, and accountability for achieving high‑quality outcomes and ensuring the safety of their caseload in alignment with NSW, SESLHD, and RHW clinical business rules.

The MGP Midwife is expected to maintain personal and professional development through participation in training, education activities, clinical supervision, and performance reviews to continuously improve the level and quality of care provided. They are also expected to share knowledge and support other staff including midwifery students and new‑graduate midwives.
