If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Operations Manager (Fuels contract - Thurrock).
As Operations Manager, you’ll take the lead in managing the safe, compliant, and customer-focused transportation of fuel by road. You’ll oversee two day and two night Shift Managers, Fleet Administration, and a Reconciliation Team, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional service delivery. This is a pivotal role where you’ll drive performance, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of safety and teamwork.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £52,000 per annum. In addition, we offer 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days. What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Lead and manage the Control Tower operation and its team, ensuring compliance with company and legal requirements.
- Oversee daily delivery plans, managing vehicles, drivers, and trailers effectively.
- Communicate operational issues clearly across teams and with customers.
- Monitor financial performance and KPIs, supporting cost control initiatives.
- Represent the site in customer forums, discussing KPIs linked to Safety, Service, and Cost.
- Ensure full compliance with driver hours, working time, and vehicle maintenance regimes.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities and implementing corrective actions.
- Inspire and develop your team through coaching, feedback, and regular performance reviews.
What you need to succeed at XPO:
- Qualifications: CPC essential.
- Experience: Proven track record managing teams in a transport environment. Fuels is advantageous.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills.
- Excellent communication and influencing abilities.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-moving operation.
- Confidence with Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience engaging with trade unions or employee work groups.
