Job description:
Logistics done differently.
Would you like the opportunity to become a professional HGV driver through our XPO funded training academy? Here at XPO, we have developed an internal program to take a car driver, through to full-fledged, Cat CE HGV driver within 12-16 weeks.
Once you have completed the training, you will have the opportunity to join the XPO team, based in Widnes. To support your journey, we have on-site trainers who will take you from being a newly qualified HGV driver to a highly trained professional.
Pay, benefits and more:
We are offering paid employment from day one of your training program, and in approximately 12 to 16 weeks’ time, we will support you to enter a new profession (dependent on the speed at which you learn). You will become a Cat C+E driver on our Tesco contract, based at our Widnes site. The site operates a flexible working pattern, 7 days a week, transporting retail products across the UK. Whilst in training, you will receive a rate of £12.21 per hour; upon completing your training milestones, this will rise significantly after acquiring your C+E licence.
What you’ll do during your training:
You will be invited to our assessment day on March 6th, 2025. This day will include a presentation, Q&A, interview, and initial driving assessment in one of our Cat B vehicles (commercial van). If successful, you will have shown your suitability to be trained as a Class 1 driver, and your learning journey will start!
- You will be offered a full-time Trainee Drivers position with us.
- You will complete manual handling training which enables you to safely secure loads and operate equipment including roll cages and tail lifts.
- You will become acclimatised to operating in a temperature-controlled environment.
- We will arrange for you to have a medical and to send off your licence application.
- You will study for the driver theory test. (XPO will fully fund two tests)
- You will be shadowing our experienced drivers to learn their roles.
- You will have practical driver training and test. (XPO will fully fund two tests)
Once you have passed, we can get you out on the road; then the fun really starts!
What you need to succeed at XPO:
- No more than 6 points on your licence.
- No DD, DR or IN endorsements.
- The commitment needed to study and achieve your training milestones; this is a great opportunity to get highly valued training free, and you need to make the most of it.
