We're on the lookout for a Transport Shift Operator to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent role working the night shift, Monday to Thursday, 22:00 - 06:00, Friday 18:00 - 02:00. You'll be at the heart of ensuring our transport operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Pay, benefits and more: We're looking to offer a salary of up to £30,000 per annum. As well as this, you'll receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), access to a variety of high street discounts, cycle to work scheme, a workplace pension and many other perks. There is also an opportunity to learn and progress through the transport operation.
What you'll do on a typical day: As a Transport Operator at our Portbury site, you'll report to the Transport Shift Manager and play a key role in keeping our night operations running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating drivers: Booking in and dispatching 40+ drivers and subcontractors.
- Gatehouse operations: Managing vehicle flow and ensuring timely loading.
- Customer communication: Handling ETAs, delivery updates, and issue resolution.
- Admin & compliance: Processing debriefs, PODs, and maintaining accurate records.
- Planning support: Assisting with transport scheduling, maintenance, and KPI reporting.
- Haulier relations: Building strong links with third-party hauliers and internal teams.
- Service excellence: Ensuring on-time deliveries and full compliance with policies.
- Flexibility: Supporting a 3-shift operation - adaptability is essential.
What you need to succeed at XPO: 1-2 years experience working within a transport office or office environment. Strong communication and administration skills, able to handle different personality types. Great organisational skills, management capability and strong influencing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Word and Excel would be an advantage but training will be provided.
