Logistics done differently. We’re recruiting for a Logistics General Manager based in Portbury, Bristol. This is a high‑profile leadership role where you’ll take full ownership of the operational, financial, and compliance performance of the contract. You’ll be responsible for delivering a seamless, safe and efficient transport service, ensuring our fleet, people and processes operate to the highest standards. We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £65,000 per annum, plus a car or monthly car allowance and an annual bonus of 15%. You’ll also receive:

What You’ll Do On a Typical Day
As General Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind the success of the operation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Operational Leadership
- High profile General Manager role based in Southwest but accountable for multi-site transport operations in Portbury, Knottingley and Grangemouth, so flexibility required for business travel.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day running of a large, fast‑moving transport operation, ensuring service excellence across all customer contracts.
- Lead the successful expansion and development of the contract, ensuring operational readiness, resource planning and seamless delivery.
- Build and develop an effective management team, creating a culture of accountability, engagement and high performance.
- Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with XPO’s approved subcontractors, to support the core fleet usage, managing their performance through periodic reviews.
- Act as the primary point of contact for senior customer stakeholders, providing regular updates on performance, service delivery and improvement activity.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams including finance, HR, compliance and fleet.
- Compliance, Safety & Fleet Performance
- Lead regular Health & Safety, compliance and fleet performance reviews, ensuring all vehicles, equipment and processes meet legal and company standards.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, Driver’s Hours regulations and all DVSA standards.
- Oversee fleet availability, maintenance planning and VOR performance, working closely with maintenance providers and internal fleet teams.
- Financial & Commercial Accountability
- Take full ownership of the contract P&L, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting and cost control.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce operating costs and maximise return on investment.
- Develop KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency and commercial performance.
What You Need To Succeed At XPO
- International CPC qualification (essential).
- Proven experience managing a large transport operation within a 3PL, general haulage or high‑volume logistics environment.
- Strong understanding of compliance, fleet operations and transport legislation.
- Demonstrable experience managing budgets and full P&L accountability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with the ability to lead teams through change and growth.
