We're working with a major UK public sector digital programme within healthcare that underpins a critical national platform used to securely manage and exchange sensitive data at scale.

You'll join a high-performing platform engineering team responsible for building, running, and evolving a secure, cloud-native messaging and services platform. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to systems that genuinely impact millions of users across the UK.

As a Senior AWS Platform Engineer, you'll bring a strong developer mindset into platform engineering-helping to design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure and developer tooling.

You will:

  • Design and evolve AWS-based cloud infrastructure
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or similar)
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent)
  • Champion secure SDLC practices and code quality standards
  • Enhance observability, monitoring, and reliability
  • Support internal teams to deliver and operate services on the platform
  • Contribute to reusable platform components and automation
  • Participate in an on-call rota (~1 in 6 weeks) once onboarded

Core Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience with AWS cloud architecture
  • Hands-on with Terraform (or other IaC tools)
  • CI/CD pipeline tooling (GitHub Actions preferred)
  • Experience with observability & monitoring tools
  • Solid understanding of Secure SDLC principles
  • Background as a software engineer (any language, Python desirable)
  • Experience working in product-focused engineering teams

Nice to Have:

  • Passion for platform engineering principles and DevOps culture
  • Experience building reusable IaC modules and CI/CD templates
  • Understanding of developer experience and team autonomy
  • Ability to influence and evangelise best practices

Requirements:

  • SC clearance eligibility (mandatory)
  • Willingness to participate in on-call support
  • Ability to travel to Leeds once per month (typically midweek, with occasional extra days quarterly)

Contract Details:

  • Duration: 6 months initial (high likelihood of extension)
  • End Date: April 2027 (programme horizon)
  • Rate: £400-£500 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Start: ASAP
