Cyber Security Architect (AWS Assurance)

UK Remote | 1–2 days per month onsite in West London | £850 per day (Inside IR35) | 12-month contract

Remote working:

This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the UK. The successful contractor must be available to attend the client’s West London site for 1–2 days per month.

We’re looking for an experienced Cyber Security Architect with strong AWS security architecture and technical assurance experience. You’ll help protect the security and resilience of critical enterprise and operational systems, working closely with engineering, DevSecOps and delivery teams to identify risks, review controls and agree practical improvements.

The role spans architecture, assurance and engineering. You’ll support secure-by-design delivery across AWS, SaaS and PaaS environments, helping teams manage security risks without creating unnecessary barriers to delivery. The wider environment includes hundreds of business-critical systems across cloud, data, integration and operational technology platforms.

The environment

You’ll work in a complex, regulated environment where cyber security, resilience and operational assurance are central to successful delivery. The role involves regular engagement with architects, developers, engineers, delivery teams and senior stakeholders.

This is not a purely governance or compliance position. You’ll need to understand how security controls work in practice and collaborate with the teams responsible for implementing them.

What you’ll do

• Provide cyber security architecture guidance across AWS, SaaS and PaaS environments.
• Conduct technical cyber security assurance and resilience reviews.
• Identify security risks, vulnerabilities and control gaps across systems and services.
• Support secure-by-design practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Review system integrations, network security controls and access management approaches.
• Validate technical security controls and assurance evidence.
• Support third‑party and supplier security assurance.
• Work with engineering and DevSecOps teams to agree practical remediation.

What you’ll bring

• Strong AWS security architecture experience.
• Technical cyber security assurance experience in complex enterprise environments.
• Experience with secure-by-design principles and security architecture.
• A track record of technical risk assessments and control reviews.
• Knowledge of NIST and NCSC-aligned security frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud security, network segregation, firewall controls and access management.
• Experience working alongside developers, engineers and technical delivery teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Useful additional experience

• UK NIS Regulations.
• Cyber resilience or operational resilience assessments.
• Supplier and third‑party security assurance.
• Regulated, critical infrastructure or operational environments.
• CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.

You’re proactive, pragmatic and technically credible. You can investigate issues independently, challenge where necessary and build constructive relationships across technical and non-technical teams. You communicate security risks clearly and help teams reach secure, workable outcomes.
