Purpose of Job: To design plant layouts and engineering solutions for the Sales department using 3D software (SolidWorks) and 2D software; to learn about and use 3D software and related applications in order to improve the clarity and appeal of our Sales designs; to offer all reasonable design and technical support to the Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Projects and R&D departments within the Company when needed.

Sales and Marketing Duties

  • To create 3D layouts of MY CLIENT equipment for the Company’s Sales projects.
  • To ensure our Sales designs and layouts are visually appealing, occupy a minimum footprint, follow the Company’s design rules, and offer a clear concept to our customers.
  • To pick up a Sales enquiry and devise what is needed for the 3D layout.
  • In time, work alone to configure equipment and systems and set these out in 3D for the Sales department.
  • To create a library of 3D, plug-and-play Sales models for all MY CLIENT products.
  • To create low-res shells of the Engineering modules making up our standard products.
  • To produce designs and 3D views for the Company’s Marketing tools and OMIs.
  • To follow the latest developments in 3D software, and in our sector, and use this knowledge in the Company’s design output to improve the Company’s strike-rate in sales.
  • To create a database of all customer sites and list what MY CLIENT equipment is in use there with latest drawings and photos.
  • To produce attractive flow diagrams to show in simple form what the 3D design is doing with the materials it is processing.
  • To create mass balances of materials flowing and dividing over the 3D layout.
  • To provide monthly reports detailing statistical information relating to sales, if required.
  • To attend site as and when necessitated by the circumstances of a particular project.
  • To assist members of the Sales team during tender submissions.
  • To benchmark competitor marketing activity/techniques, as well as those used outside our sector to maximise the effectiveness of our Sales design output.

General Engineering Duties

  • To carry out engineering work for the Projects department in the form of Project Engineering tasks and/or detailed design to help release work to the factory, if needed.
  • To take time to understand the design-to-manufacture process at MY CLIENT in order to suggest improvements based on your experience.
  • To help write the Design Rules of MY CLIENT Engineering.
  • To help create a Library of Machines containing all the pertinent information we collectively hold about every product integrated in our layouts.
  • To work on the development of any standard or non-standard machines and applications.
  • To work on the Company’s ongoing Product Standardisation programme and its improvements programme.
  • To produce drawings for new products and to offer input on any R&D project occurring within the Company.

General Duties

  • To attend meetings called by the management.
  • To bring to the attention of the Technical Director any factor affecting satisfactory and timely completion of a given task.
  • To offer suggestions aimed at improving any application or process within the Company.
  • To follow the procedures set out in the Company’s Quality System.
  • To follow the policies set out in the Company’s Handbook.
  • To observe at all times the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To ensure that work carried out by the job-holder is inspected during execution and upon completion to ensure that it is defect-free before onward transmission.
  • To work reasonable overtime when requested, as required by the pattern of work.
  • To carry out any other duties within the job-holder’s capability, including transferring to other work, as and when required.
