Role Summary

The Year in Industry placement role provides administrative and analytical support across policy, customer engagement, and change activities. This placement offers an opportunity to gain practical experience within the energy sector, supporting the delivery of government policy initiatives, industry change programmes, and stakeholder engagement activities. Working alongside experienced colleagues, the postholder will develop knowledge of policy implementation, business operations, customer engagement, and change delivery in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Policy & Change Support
  • Support the delivery of policy and change initiatives across the organisation.
  • Assist in the preparation of communications, presentations, and stakeholder updates.
  • Help maintain records and documentation relating to programme activities.
  • Support colleagues in ensuring customer and stakeholder requirements are understood and represented.
• Administration & Stakeholder Support
  • Provide administrative support to the wider team.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Organise meetings and events, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute taking.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Reporting & Analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and performance information.
  • Support the collection and analysis of data to inform decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records and information to support team activities.
• Learning & Development
  • Develop an understanding of the energy industry, government policy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Participate in learning and development opportunities throughout the placement.
  • Contribute ideas for improving processes, communications, and stakeholder engagement activities.

Skills & Experience

• Essential
  • Currently undertaking an undergraduate degree and seeking a Year in Industry placement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage tasks effectively and work to deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Positive, proactive approach and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
• Desirable
  • Studying Politics, Economics, Public Policy, Business Management, or a related subject.
  • Interest in government policy, regulation, energy markets, or sustainability.
  • Experience gained through university projects, part-time work, volunteering, or extracurricular activities.
  • Basic analytical and data handling skills.

Qualifications

• Essential
  • Currently studying towards an undergraduate degree and undertaking a recognised Year in Industry placement programme.
• Desirable
  • Degree studies in Politics, Economics, Public Policy, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable interest in public policy, energy, regulation, or decarbonisation.
