Role Summary

The Commercial Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Commercial Operations service, ensuring Commercial requests are effectively logged, triaged, tracked and co-ordinated through the appropriate processes. The role maintains the integrity of Commercial governance records, management information, templates and guidance, supporting the smooth operation of the Commercial function.

Working closely with Commercial teams and business stakeholders, the role ensures service standards are met, governance requirements are adhered to and management information remains accurate and up to date. Responsibilities

  • Operate the Commercial intake channel, ensuring requests are logged, clarified and routed to the appropriate Commercial function within agreed service standards.
  • Monitor intake volumes, backlogs, service standards and handovers, proactively chasing actions and escalating delays or unclear ownership to support timely closure and effective backlog management.
  • Co-ordinate approval packs and verify that required evidence, delegated authority requirements and review conditions are complete before decisions are made, ensuring approval submissions are accepted first time wherever possible.
  • Maintain pipeline, contract, supplier, risk, action and approval records, ensuring a complete, accurate and up-to-date source of Commercial management information.
  • Produce routine dashboards, reports and analysis, ensuring reporting is accurate, complete and timely while highlighting missing data, overdue actions and emerging governance or control issues.
  • Maintain Commercial templates, user guidance and knowledge resources, ensuring documentation reflects agreed process changes and lessons learned.
  • Carry out proportionate assurance checks and support improvement actions across Procurement, Contract Management, Supplier Relationship Management and Legal activities.
  • Support data quality, process improvement and automation initiatives that improve efficiency, consistency and service performance across the Commercial function.
  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders and act as a key point of contact for day-to-day Commercial Operations enquiries.

Specialist/Technical Expertise

Essential

  • Strong experience of workflow organisation and case management within a Commercial, Procurement or business operations environment.
  • Proven experience using spreadsheets, dashboards and workflow tools to monitor activity, track performance and support decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues, track actions and maintain accurate management information.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple activities, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proactive and persistent approach to action tracking, ensuring tasks are followed through to completion.
  • Ability to communicate requirements clearly and constructively, building effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, identifying when issues can be resolved directly and when escalation is required.
  • High attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining accurate records, evidence and high-quality data.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports, guidance and updates.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
