Role Overview

We are hiring a Modern Workplace Engineer to support a large-scale Windows 11 laptop and VDI rollout programme within an enterprise environment. This role sits between advanced deskside support and endpoint engineering, with a strong focus on device deployment, configuration, packaging, and troubleshooting across modern Microsoft technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Windows 11 Rollout & Endpoint Support
    • Provide hands-on support for Windows 11 laptop rollout, including deployment, configuration, and post-deployment support
    • Troubleshoot issues across device, OS, Active Directory, and Group Policy (GPO) layers
    • Support endpoint management workflows using modern tools and best practices
  • Patching & Image Management
    • Perform ad-hoc patching and remediation for low-severity (Sev5) incidents
    • Assist in maintaining and updating laptop images, including:
      • Monthly OS patching
      • Application version updates
      • Image optimization
  • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) Support
    • Support Windows 11 VDI (Dev environment) rollout, including troubleshooting and user support
    • Work alongside internal teams managing the Citrix environment (deep Citrix expertise not required)
    • Assist in resolving issues within virtualized desktop environments
  • Application Packaging & Deployment
    • Create and manage application packages using MSIX (Intune packaging focus)
    • Support AppAttach packaging where required
    • Ensure smooth deployment of applications across managed devices
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
    • Produce technical documentation, user guides, and support procedures
    • Support handover to BAU teams post rollout activities
    • Ensure knowledge is effectively shared across support and engineering teams

Required Skills & Experience

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with:
    • Microsoft Autopilot
    • Microsoft Intune & Entra ID (Azure AD)
    • MSIX Packaging (Intune-focused; AppAttach exposure beneficial)
  • Good working knowledge of:
    • Active Directory (AD)
    • Group Policy (GPO)
    • AppLocker policies

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to virtual desktop environments (Citrix or similar)
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale rollout or transformation programmes
  • Familiarity with image engineering / endpoint configuration management
