XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).

Overview

Operating at the forefront of survey data acquisition as the first point of quality control and optimisations in the survey project life cycle, ensuring all operations are performed efficiently whilst upholding the highest standards and good survey practice.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Online surveying on projects remotely in shifts.
  • Accountable for quality control of GNSS, MBES, SBP, SSS and Magnetometer data using online survey tools and feeding back to the Project Surveyor and Data Processors/Geophysicists.
  • Accurate, detailed log keeping and adherence to established workflows.
  • Adhering to project spec/scope and execution of the overall survey plan.
  • Calibrating and verifications of all survey sensors.
  • Assisting Project Surveyors with survey planning and assessment of survey results.
  • Providing accurate and informed assessments of survey activities to support operational decision making by Project Surveyors, XOC Shift Leads and other stakeholders.
  • Preparation of reports and production of data deliverables within stated deadlines.
  • Contributions to departmental development and small tasks befitting the running of the survey department.
  • On occasion this role may involve:
    • Data processing and creating final deliverables to a high standard.
    • Onsite support on the projects.
    • Planning and undertaking aerial drone surveys.
    • Managing and maintaining Quality, Environment and Health and Safety standards including update, implementation and management of all ISO processes as appropriate to the role.
    • Implementing, maintaining, managing and updating all standard operating procedures and processes appropriate to the role.

Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience

  • Hydrographic Surveyor Qualification – Cat A or Cat B.
  • 3yrs+ experience within the hydrographic / geophysical survey industry working on projects in the following sectors: civil hydrography, cable/pipe route surveys, O&M, asset inspection, UXO.
  • Must have demonstrable experience in calibrating, verifying, and QCing of GNSS, MBES, SBP, USBL, SSS, and magnetometer sensors and datasets.
  • Experience with industry standard survey software (BeamworX/QPS QPS suite, POS View/POSPac MMS, Sonardyne Ranger 2, Edgetech Discover, Innomar SESWIN, EIVA NaviSuit).
  • Strong communication skills, computer literacy, with an enthusiastic, positive and proactive nature with a keen attention to detail and an aptitude for independent troubleshooting.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in shallow water/nearshore environments.
  • Experience in processing, interpretation and reporting of bathymetric and geophysical data.
  • Experience in survey planning & calculation of error budgets.
  • Relevant marine qualifications such as Yachtmaster, Coastal Skipper, ICC (or equivalent).
