About XOCEAN
XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed our own Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) capable of performing the same surveys with a fraction of the environmental impact. Operating uncrewed vessels means we can work remotely, with colleagues spread across the globe covering 24 hours a day continuous survey and processing.
Overview
You will be responsible for the processing, analysis, QC and reporting of survey data collected, at a highly technical level. You will be expected to provide support for other data processors in the department, while line managing a small number of them. You will often be acting as the lead managing the processing of large survey, or the main point of support for multiple more junior leads. When not working directly on a project you will be helping develop the department, devising new workflows, testing new software and helping training others within the department.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Survey data processing and reporting, in a shift pattern when required.
- Diligent log keeping and data management.
- Planning of processing workflow to meet project requirements.
- Liaising with the online team during remote data acquisition missions, monitoring of the data being captured using online and offline survey tools.
- Survey software setup – offline hardware and software setup prior to project start up.
- Coordinating a team of data processors.
- Quality Control – monitoring of the work performed by the Data Processors.
- Liaising with sub-contractors, clients and wider team members of the project team to ensure the aims of the project are met.
- Data processing planning and progress tracking.
- Preparation of technical reports and produce data for delivery within stated deadlines to a high standard.
- Implementing, maintaining, managing and updating all standard operating procedures and processes in the department.
- Develop and verify automated processing processes.
- Line management of a small number of Data Processors.
- Project processing budget and efficiency tracking.
On occasion this role may involve:
- Online surveying
- Supporting with information for tenders
- Managing and maintaining Quality, Environment and Health and Safety standards including updating, implementing and management of all ISO processes as appropriate to the role.
Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience
- Hydrographic Surveyor Qualification – Cat A or Cat B or equivalent.
- 5 years+ MBES Survey Experience (hydrographic survey and assets inspections).
- Experience with pipeline data processing and eventing.
- Survey data processing experience of MBES.
- Proactive approach to problem solving.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Strong computer literacy.
- Enthusiastic, flexible and proactive nature with a keen attention to detail.
Desirable Experience
- ARC GIS and AutoCad knowledge would be an advantage.
- Experience of industry standard hydrographic survey data post processing software (e.g. POSpac MMS, BeamworX, EIVA, QPS software etc).
- Experience of hydrographic survey data online software is an advantage.
- Experience with Python coding in a hydrographic/geophysical survey application.
- Experience in processing Side-scan Sonar, & Geophysical Data.
