We are seeking a skilled and reliable Linish Operator to join our busy engineering workshop. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, finishing, and surface treatment of metal components using linishing, grinding, and sanding equipment. This role is key in ensuring products meet quality, dimensional, and cosmetic standards before moving forward in the manufacturing process. Overtime is available as and when required by the production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate linishing machines, belt sanders, and grinders to remove burrs, weld spatter, sharp edges, and surface imperfections.
- Prepare metal components to required tolerances and finishes according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Inspect finished parts for quality, consistency, and accuracy using visual inspection techniques.
- Maintain equipment, including changing belts, cleaning machinery, and reporting faults.
- Handle components safely, ensuring correct positioning, clamping, and material flow.
- Work collaboratively with welders, fabricators, and machinists to meet production deadlines.
- Follow all workshop health & safety procedures, including PPE use, machine guarding, and safe material handling.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy, and compliant with 5S/lean standards.
- Assist in general workshop duties as needed, supporting wider production operations.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience as a linish operator or similar finishing role.
- Strong understanding of metal finishing processes.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings.
- Good hand–eye coordination and physical dexterity.
- High attention to detail, especially with cosmetic and dimensional standards.
- Understanding of workshop safety protocols.
Desirable:
- Experience working with stainless steel, mild steel, or aluminium.
- Forklift.
- Knowledge of surface finishes such as brushed, satin, or polished.
