Job Description – Actuary, Equine Livestock & Aquaculture (78004441D20250220)

Location: London – UK

In this role, you will join the Specialty pricing team, report to the Head of Pricing, Life, A&H, ELA, CM and S&E, and support Equine, Livestock and Aquaculture (ELA) underwriters in all aspects of Pricing. You will lead the pricing support for the ELA portfolio covering c. $140m of written premium worldwide and carry out tasks for other Specialty Niche lines as required.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Ensure AXA XL is a leader in the field of technical pricing and portfolio management.
  2. Maintain and improve the Pricing view of loss ratio by peril for ELA.
  3. Build pricing models for new products or where the tools do not currently exist and foster their use.
  4. Maintain and streamline existing actuarial pricing tools, ensuring all tools are calibrated appropriately.
  5. Case pricing of large accounts/peer review of case pricing by others.
  6. Manage data collection processes from pricing tools and analyze that data, including regular reports on rate change and profitability metrics.
  7. Present the pricing metrics to the UW leadership teams as appropriate.
  8. Challenge Actuarial and UW leadership, Reserving and Capital modelling.
  9. Drive consistency in pricing and portfolio analysis across ELA worldwide.
  10. Ensure efficiency of pricing processes within ELA.
  11. Ensure compliance with pricing guidelines.
  12. Deliver core tasks such as planning, core pricing metrics, and trend.
  13. Train underwriters in pricing matters.
  14. Liaise with Legal Entity Finance Staff and Regulators for ELA Pricing matters.
  15. Leverage other AXA XL capabilities, e.g., DCP, Risk Consulting, Strategic Analytics.
  16. Support UW with client communication and relationships.
  17. Participate in wider multiclass Specialty pricing projects.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  1. FIA Qualified or shown significant progress in the actuarial exams.
  2. Significant experience of non-life insurance pricing.
  3. Leadership skills to work collaboratively with colleagues to build consensus.
  4. Effective analytical skills.
  5. Persuasive verbal communication skills to gain buy-in and communicate clearly with internal and external clients.
  6. Excellent written communication skills.
  7. Ability to think strategically.
  8. Good time management, able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  9. Coding skills such as VBA, SQL, R, Python would be an advantage.
