The Role
We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer in Test to own quality and testing strategy across Xiatech as we scale Xfuze. You’ll be equally comfortable running deep manual testing on complex features as you are designing and building automation frameworks that the rest of engineering can build on.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You’ll set the testing strategy for the business, then roll your sleeves up to build the automation frameworks, repeatable scripts and CI/CD test pipelines that make it real, raising the bar for quality across every team.

This is a great fit for a senior test engineer who has worked on a product or within a SaaS business before, has deep experience in both manual and automation testing, and wants to build testing capability for an entire engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and define the test strategy and quality standards for Xiatech’s engineering organisation
• Design, build and maintain automation testing frameworks and repeatable, reusable test scripts across the product
• Set up and embed automation testing across the business, working with every engineering team to raise test coverage and quality
• Run in-depth manual testing on complex, high-risk features where automation alone isn’t enough
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, confident, repeatable releases
• Define and track quality metrics (test coverage, defect rates, release quality) and report on them to engineering leadership
• Identify gaps in current testing practices and lead the rollout of new tools, frameworks and processes to close them
• Mentor and upskill engineers and QAs across the business in both manual and automation testing best practice
• Own test planning for major releases, balancing risk, speed and coverage
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Customer Success to understand real-world usage and prioritise testing effort accordingly
• Evaluate and introduce new testing tools and technologies as the product and platform evolve

Your Knowledge & Experience

• Proven experience as a Principal, Lead or Senior Software Engineer in Test, QA Engineer or similar
• Strong hands-on experience in both manual testing and test automation — not automation-only
• Experience working on a product or within a SaaS business, understanding the demands of continuous delivery
• A track record of building automation testing frameworks and repeatable, reusable test scripts from scratch
• Experience setting up or scaling test automation practices across multiple teams, not just a single product area
• Strong knowledge of automation tools and frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Postman/API testing, or similar)
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
• Solid understanding of testing methodologies, test planning and risk-based testing approaches
• Comfortable writing and reviewing code/scripts to support test automation
• Excellent communicator, able to influence testing practice and standards across engineering teams
• Self-starter, comfortable defining strategy as well as rolling up your sleeves to build it
