LOCATION: Gatwick, Sussex - Hybrid
SALARY: Circa up to £60,000 DOE + 15% bonus

THE JOB
The Project Engineer will play a key role in the organisation's transition to Net Zero, working as part of a project delivery team, leading the design of projects (typically up to £25m) or supporting a Senior Project Engineer or Design Manager on more complex projects.
As a Project Engineer in the Construction Sustainability Programme, you’ll act as Design Manager on key sustainability projects. From concept through to construction and handover, you’ll ensure technical, quality, cost, and delivery targets are met — while always keeping sustainability front of mind.
Your duties will include:
- Lead the design management process on sustainability-focused projects
- Develop and manage scopes, design briefs, and oversee external consultants and D&B contractors
- Ensure all projects align with sustainability goals — including energy-efficient systems, low-carbon materials, waste minimisation, and smart logistics
- Interface with internal stakeholders, client representatives, and multi-disciplinary teams across Sales, Preconstruction, Operations, and Commercial
- Coordinate input across mechanical, electrical, controls, and building services disciplines
- Ensure compliance with technical standards and Building Services regulations
- Act as Principal Designer Contact (CDM 2015), with CDM Advisor support
- Provide technical guidance and input throughout the project lifecycle
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a construction-related discipline (or significant equivalent experience)
- Chartered status or working towards it (desirable)
- Proven experience in design or design management on decarbonisation or low-carbon infrastructure projects
- In-depth knowledge of Building Services mechanical systems and technical/regulatory frameworks
- Skilled at managing multi-disciplinary teams and external design consultants
- Strong understanding of sustainable design principles and their application to construction
- Familiarity with NEC contracts, contractor claims, and PM instructions (desirable)
- Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, live operational environment
