We are recruiting on behalf of an alternative education provider in East Sutton for a partātime English Tutor to join their team on a permanent basis, working 21 hours per week. This role is ideal for an English Tutor who is passionate about supporting adult learners in an alternative provision setting. You will help learners develop essential literacy skills, build confidence, and work towards recognised qualifications that support progression into further education, training, or employment.
The Role
- Deliver English lessons to adult learners within an alternative provision
- Teach Functional Skills and/or GCSE English, depending on learner needs
- Plan engaging, learnerācentred lessons tailored to a range of abilities
- Support learners to build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievement
- Create a supportive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
- Work collaboratively with the wider education and support teams
- Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and compliance requirements
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience teaching English to adult learners
- Confident delivering Functional Skills and/or GCSE English
- Background in alternative provision, FE, or adult education (desirable)
- Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
- Empathetic, flexible, and learnerāfocused approach
- Teaching qualification preferred (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent)
