Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in Law and Criminology across Level 2–3 programmes, supporting 16–19 learners to achieve their academic and career goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Law and Criminology
- Teach across topics such as Criminal Law, Civil Law, Crime & Deviance, and the Criminal Justice System
- Deliver BTEC / Applied Law / Criminology qualifications
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources
- Assess student work and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Track learner progress and implement intervention strategies where required
- Support learners with academic and pastoral needs
- Maintain accurate records using college systems (e.g. registers, progress tracking)
- Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement
- Participate in team meetings, standardisation, and CPD activities
Requirements
- Degree in Law, Criminology, or related subject
- Teaching qualification (PGCE / Cert Ed / AET) or willingness to work towards
- Experience teaching in FE or secondary education (preferred)
- Strong subject knowledge in Law and/or Criminology
- Understanding of safeguarding and working with 16–19 learners
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
Desirable
- Experience delivering BTEC or Applied Law/Criminology qualifications
- Industry or professional background within legal or criminal justice sectors
- Experience supporting diverse learners and promoting inclusive practice
