Our client is a leading logistics organisation. The role involves being responsible for the performance of the central Hub, ensuring high quality and service results within budget. You will lead a large team to drive processes and improvements in a fast-paced environment to ensure excellent service levels are met. You will lead, coach, develop, and engage with senior managers to implement 'best in class processes' and set out the organisational vision.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementation of a transport strategy for the UK that enables the business to meet its functional and commercial goals for the future.
  • Management of a hub and transport team responsible for all transport scheduling and administration.
  • Implementation of a set of KPIs that complement the business model, provide direction for process improvements, and offer better leverage when influencing stakeholders.
  • Accountability for compliance and HSE across the supply chain.
  • Project management as required.
  • Formulating and successfully implementing company policy.
  • Developing strategic plans.
  • Building and maintaining an effective leadership team.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing transport logistics policies and goals.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of all areas of the transport logistics operation to ensure operational efficiency and economy.
  • Maintaining ongoing awareness of market conditions and trends to ensure effective reaction to market changes.
  • Working and communicating with departments.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing activities in cooperation with departments and monitoring and reviewing weekly and monthly results through management meetings and reports.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with all department heads to ensure company goals are achieved.
  • Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company.
  • Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the board.
  • Putting in place adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
  • Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are understood and owned by management and other employees.
  • Closely monitoring operating and financial results against plans and budgets.
  • Taking remedial action where necessary and informing the board of significant changes.
  • Maintaining the operational performance of the Hub.
  • Representing the company when required to major customers, partners, and professional associations.

Ideal candidate:

  • Experience: Has run national hubs in the logistics sector - essential.
  • Transport logistics background essential.
  • Understanding of current health, safety, and legal compliance regulations applicable to transport logistics.
  • Qualification in logistics or general management.
  • Managerial experience in running hubs at national and regional level.
  • Strong communication and interaction skills required.
  • Effective and competent management, leadership, and organisational skills required.
  • An eye for detail.
  • A passionate and energetic individual.
  • Good at planning and organising.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A great leader of people.
  • The courage to make difficult decisions when required.
