About us
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Cross-Border Conflict Evidence, Policy and Trends (XCEPT) programme at King’s College London (KCL). Funded by UK International Development. XCEPT brings together world-leading experts and local researchers to examine conflict-affected borderlands, how conflicts connect across borders, the intersection of climate stresses and conflict, and the drivers of violent and peaceful behaviour, to inform policies and programmes that support peace.
KCL’s component of XCEPT is operationally managed by the Centre for Statecraft and National Security (CSNS) .The programme specifically studies violent and peaceful behaviour across four focal countries (Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and South Sudan). This is a policy-oriented research programme which produces written outputs such as reviews of evidence, policy briefing notes, working papers, journal articles, and commentaries/Op-eds, as well as broader research dissemination activities through governmental policy presentations, public conferences, podcasts, video explainers, and other media.
The role
We are seeking a Communications Manager to join the XCEPT programme at KCL. You will manage our communications activities, raising awareness of our research and engaging new, and existing, audiences. You will have strong organisational skills and a knack for crafting compelling content.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinating the production and delivery of communications outputs to improve uptake of research across various stakeholders, including academia, the policy community, humanitarian sector, funding bodies, and the public.
- Proactively identifying opportunities to publicise our research and develop ideas for engaging content.
- Managing and coordinating the production of podcast episodes, blog posts, and other digital content to promote the programme work. This will involve collaboration with both the KCL programme team and a wider range of researchers and stakeholders to translate research and ideas into innovative and engaging communications outputs.
- Managing the programme website and social media channels, including creating engaging content, keeping pages updated, and helping to grow our engagement rates.
- Collecting regular digital engagement analytics across our website and social media channels to highlight key successes and recommendations for development.
- Leading on delivering public events to promote our research, including a two-day conference in late 2026.
The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.
- Specific assignment tasks and time allocation will be discussed and agreed in collaboration with the programme’s Principal Investigators and Research Operations Manager, based on programme needs.
Requirements
- Relevant work experience in a marketing and communications role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- The proven ability to translate complex information into accessible and engaging content.
- Knowledge and proficiency in using digital editing software and packages.
- Experience of content creation for websites and social media channels in a professional capacity.
- Experience of managing website pages and social media channels.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with a range of stakeholders, including academics and local research partners, and providing tailored support for producing impactful communications content.
- Experience producing and editing podcast episodes (desirable)
