Tech Architect – with GenAI

Hybrid

Experience: 10+ years

Reports To: (Head of Engineering / Head of Delivery)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and technical design of features and services across a cloud-native platform. Python is the primary language for AI and automation services, n8n is used extensively for workflow automation, and the platform also includes Java, Angular and Camunda.
  • Build and own Python services for AI capabilities, including LLM integration, data processing and APIs, with an emphasis on clean, testable, production-grade code.
  • Design and build GenAI capabilities into insurance workflows and expose them as reusable services and APIs.
  • Architect AI features that are reliable and safe by design: structured outputs, grounding, guardrails, human-in-the-loop review, and a clear separation between AI-driven and deterministic logic.
  • Design and build automation flows in n8n, including custom nodes, AI-enabled workflows, error handling and cross-system integrations, and combine them with Camunda (BPMN/DMN) where long-running or governed process orchestration is needed.
  • Bring observability and cost awareness to AI workloads, including tracing, usage and performance monitoring, and evaluation of model outputs.
  • Own complex features end to end, from requirements and design through build, release and production support.
  • Champion AI-driven SDLC practices, including AI-assisted coding, code review, test generation, documentation and debugging, and define team standards for using them responsibly.
  • Stay hands-on: contribute production-quality code, lead design and code reviews, and unblock the team on complex technical problems.
  • Contribute to architecture governance through clear design decisions, documented trade-offs and reusable patterns.
  • Evaluate and select models, frameworks and GenAI services based on fit, cost, latency and maintainability.
  • Work with product managers, engineers, QA and business teams to break ambiguous problems into well-scoped, deliverable increments.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for stakeholders and clients, supporting solution discussions and managing expectations on scope, timelines and risk.
  • Mentor and grow engineers, setting the bar for engineering quality, ownership and delivery discipline.
  • Ensure data privacy, compliance, security and scalability standards are upheld in every solution.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years in software development and architecture, with a strong track record in system design and enterprise product delivery.
  • Strong, hands-on Python expertise building production backend and AI services, including frameworks such as FastAPI, async processing, data handling, and testing practices.
  • Substantial hands-on experience with n8n: designing complex workflows, building custom nodes or integrations, self-hosting and operating it at scale, and integrating it with APIs, LLMs and enterprise systems.
  • Working experience across the wider stack, including Java (Spring Boot or similar), Angular, and Camunda, enough to design across it and contribute where needed.
  • Proven experience owning features end to end in a complex product, including design, implementation, testing, deployment and post-release support.
  • Practical GenAI engineering experience: consuming LLM APIs, prompt and output-schema design, RAG, evaluation, and building AI features with sensible guardrails.
  • Experience designing multi-step or agentic LLM workflows, with good judgement on where to keep processing deterministic.
  • Proficiency with AI-driven SDLC tooling (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and a clear view on where AI accelerates delivery and where human oversight is essential.
  • Strong understanding of REST and event-driven API design, microservices, and cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP considered).
  • Experience delivering in Agile teams, including estimation, sprint planning and managing delivery risk.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, decision records and engineering playbooks.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance domain experience (strongly preferred), such as underwriting, submission intake, claims, policy administration or financial operations, plus exposure to GenAI use cases like submission processing, risk summarisation or broker email parsing.
  • Experience designing BPMN/DMN-based workflows in Camunda (7 or 8) and deciding when to use Camunda versus lighter-weight automation tools.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, RAG pipelines and agentic workflow patterns.
  • Awareness of LLM security concerns such as prompt injection and data leakage.
  • Exposure to CI/CD, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) and observability tooling, including LLM observability.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS and enterprise deployments.
  • Prior experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and mentoring senior engineers.
