Senior Sanctions Advisory Analyst – Global Law Firm

An opportunity has arisen to join a highly respected global law firm in the position of Senior Sanctions Advisory Analyst. The role provides practical sanctions analysis and advisory support across the Group’s global businesses and office network.

This is a specialist role providing sanctions analysis, advisory and risk management support across the Group’s global businesses and international office network.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide sanctions advisory support on new and existing clients, beneficial owners, counterparties, transactions and jurisdictions.
  • Assess and manage sanctions-related risk, including complex ownership and control structures, designated persons and jurisdictional exposure.
  • Interpret and apply OFAC, OFSI, EU, UN and relevant local sanctions regimes to specific business scenarios.
  • Review and escape complex sanctions alerts and potential issues, providing clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Conduct OSINT research, sanctions case reviews and regulatory horizon scanning.
  • Support sanctions assessments across onboarding, periodic reviews and trigger events.
  • Prepare concise sanctions analysis, risk assessments and escalation papers for senior Compliance, Legal and business stakeholders.
  • Support sanctions policies, procedures, training, control testing, audits and risk-management improvements.
  • Work closely with Compliance, Legal and business teams on complex sanctions and wider financial crime matters.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years’ relevant experience in sanctions, sanctions risk, financial crime advisory, compliance risk, trade controls or a related discipline.
  • Significant hands-on experience assessing and advising on sanctions-related risk is essential.
  • Strong practical knowledge of US/OFAC, UK/OFSI, EU and UN sanctions regimes.
  • Experience analysing complex ownership structures, designated-person exposure, jurisdictional risk and sanctions restrictions.
  • Ability to research regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, commercially practical advice and risk-based recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with confidence advising senior stakeholders.
  • Experience within financial services, professional services, legal services, fiduciary or fund administration is advantageous.
  • ICA, sanctions, legal or equivalent professional qualifications are a plus.

Important:

This is not primarily a KYC, AML operations or sanctions screening role. Candidates should have demonstrable experience in sanctions advisory, sanctions risk assessment and applying sanctions requirements to complex business scenarios. Experience limited to alert clearing or screening without substantive advisory exposure is unlikely to be suitable.

The successful candidate will be comfortable managing complex sanctions matters and stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
