We are looking for a talented Senior Lighting Designer to join our dynamic and growing studio. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your skills, share your ideas, and develop your career within a friendly, creative team.

Company Description: Xavio is a family-owned lighting design consultancy, established in 2011. As a market leader in lighting design for super-prime residential, luxury hospitality, and retail sectors, we work on prestigious projects including private residences, hotels, restaurants, and high-end retail. Our projects are based primarily in Central London and we collaborate closely with top architects and interior designers to deliver exceptional lighting schemes for our luxury projects. Our team is rapidly growing and we’re expanding our presence internationally.

Role Description

We are hiring a Senior Lighting Designer for a full-time hybrid role. You will work closely with our Design Director to provide professional lighting design input on our projects. Helping to train and grow the skills of junior designers and other members of the team. Using talent, experience and creative gifts to further enhance our offering and brand.

The role is key to upholding Xavio’s high standard of workmanship across all projects, with a continuous focus on improvement to maintain and grow our position as a world-class consultancy. It involves proactively seeking new project opportunities while working collaboratively with other professional firms and clients to support the company’s ongoing growth.

Our designers benefit from total flexi-time and a hybrid working arrangement, with the option to work remotely up to four days a week. While our head office and Country Design Studio are located in Alton, Hampshire (on the main rail line to Waterloo), most of our design team is based in London and the Home Counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building client relationships
  • Preparation of lighting design documentation for all stages of the RIBA process.
  • Preparation of lighting design specifications
  • Working with CAD to create lighting layouts.
  • Researching / sourcing new products.
  • Creating mock-ups / experiments
  • Assessing product performance & samples.
  • Creating technical diagrams and details.
  • Attend client / design / site meetings and be a dynamic leader in delivering memorable design presentations / workshops for all projects within your team.
  • Responsible for ensuring ALL designs from within your team are world-class and creative.
  • Check the design work of other members of the team and giving meaningful feedback to help them develop in their skills.
  • Responsible for ensuring ALL documentation is 100% accurate and professionally presented.

Proactive liaison with other consultants, specialist contractors and sub-contractors on all design details, to ensure seamless co-ordination.

  • Assist project managers with preparation of Bills of Quantities & lighting quotations using Excel.
  • Using Dialux and other 3D modelling software to provide lux calculations.
  • Help your team to keep fresh and inspired with new ideas.
  • Contribute to company-wide creative emails/messages to spread creativity amongst all the teams.
  • Attend professional lighting industry events to keep up to date with the latest trends / technologies / products.

Skills and Experience Required

• Minimum 2 years of experience in senior lighting designer role

  • A passion for lighting and interiors, with an understanding of how they create powerful emotional experiences for end users.
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating creativity, technical skill, and imaginative thinking.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), AutoCAD, with experience in Dialux, Revit, SketchUp, or 3D modelling considered a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong multitasking and project management abilities.
  • Clear communication and excellent presentation skills, capable of articulating design concepts to clients and team members effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the RIBA Construction Stages.
  • Project experience that is relevant to super-prime residences
