Although we are headquartered in Gibraltar, this is a full time, 100% remote position. Work from anywhere! This role is exclusively for candidates currently based in the United Kingdom. Residency in the UK is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Xapo is looking for a proactive and highly skilled Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) & Compliance Officer to join our global team. The MLRO & Compliance Officer will work as an integral part of our global Compliance team, ensuring we maintain an effective compliance monitoring, anti-money laundering and advisory program and meet regulatory compliance and AML obligations. The role will drive the implementation and management of compliance controls, processes and operations for Xapo’s Compliance & Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) Program, including AML/CTF and Sanctions prevention activities. This role will support the business in the development and implementation of a UK-specific Compliance & AFC Framework to provide reasonable assurance that policies and procedures are effective and understood by staff. This position is UK-based (Remote), with a strong preference for London or the surrounding Home Counties to support Xapo’s UK expansion and regulatory authorisations process.
Responsibilities
- Be approved by relevant regulatory authorities in the United Kingdom to hold the official MLRO and/or Nominated Officer role(s) for Xapo’s UK footprint.
- Monitor the regulatory landscape and document at least an annual regulatory risk assessment with recommendations (Annual Risk Assessment and MLRO’s Annual Report to the Board).
- Conduct compliance reviews and analysis of new regulatory developments; maintain oversight and disseminate updates across the business.
- Maintain and update Compliance policies and procedures to reflect business needs and regulatory requirements.
- Draft Annual and Monthly Compliance Reports and other required reports.
- Maintain the AFC Framework and policies to ensure appropriate controls and a robust Compliance Monitoring Program.
- Facilitate risk-based Know Your Customer and Transaction Monitoring programmes to detect unusual activity and report suspicious activity, including SARs where appropriate.
- Oversee the AFC Compliance team operations, including training, capacity planning, and tracking KPIs and KRIs.
- Plan, organise and execute day-to-day Compliance and AFC activities; work with the business to remediate issues identified through testing.
- Independently investigate and act on Compliance & AFC matters.
- Build relationships with authorities, payment schemes and regulators to align with AFC good practices.
- Support regulatory inquiries, filings and reporting requirements with accurate responses.
- Coordinate audits, reviews and examinations.
- Collaborate with Compliance and Business leads on strategic planning, structure, focus areas and quarterly goals.
- Work with relevant partners, financial institution partners, card networks and regulatory authorities.
- Provide guidance, advice, and training to improve understanding of related laws and regulatory requirements.
Skills needed
- Extensive experience in banks, VASPs, complex financial services firms, or related e-money/payments industries with MLRO level exposure.
- Strong operational knowledge to build and run a compliant AFC program aligned with UK and global AFC standards.
- Several years of people management experience.
- Ability to build collaborative relations with peers and remote teams at all levels.
- Experience with AFC system implementation, configuration and management.
- Experience with data visualization tools.
- Cryptoasset experience, blockchain analytics, and AFC program management.
