We are looking for a Consultant in Clinical Oncology to work for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be for a 2 year fixed term contract, to work full time, with the potential to extend, and offers the opportunity to work in a state of the art cancer centre, based on site, at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland.

The post holder will join the Cancer Services Team and share in the collective responsibility for the provision of a quality clinical and medical oncology service for patients. The post holder will provide leadership within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through audit, research and undergraduate/postgraduate education and training. The post holder will contribute to the development and management of the Cancer Services in a way that meets the needs to deliver a service which is patient centred and holistic.

The post holder will take part in outpatient clinics which include new, review and radiotherapy and chemotherapy patients:

  • Clinic Schedule Lung and Urology – (Clinic 1a and b – currently Monday)
  • Lower GI/Upper GI – (Clinic 2 – currently Wednesday)
  • Breast – (Clinic 3 – currently Thursday)

The post holder will undertake inpatient and outpatient work and attend MDTs. Specialist interest in two of the following tumour sites is essential (Lung, Breast, GI, Urology, Head and Neck, Skin). The post holder will be able to develop their specialist interests in line with the service need. The post holder will have 1PA designated as Acute Oncology and supporting PAs may include protocol development and clinical leadership roles. SPAs will be allocated for audit, governance, morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical trials and senior medical staff meetings.

Summary of Main Infrastructure for the service:

  • Linear Accelerators 3 TruBeam (VMAT/SBRT)
  • CT Simulator 64 slice with Varian RPM (with shell expansion for a second CT simulator)
  • Superficial Treatment Suite 1
  • Mould Room 1
  • Diagnostic CT 1
  • Diagnostic MRI 1
  • Outpatient clinical exam rooms 6 (specifically to support radiotherapy)
  • Outpatient clinical exam rooms 13 to support chemotherapy, new and long-term review
  • Chemotherapy day case area 25 treatment chairs and 6 long day treatment rooms

Requirements:

  • Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Oncology via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date), CESR or European Community Rights
  • Extensive oncology experience, and knowledge of two tumour sites is essential
