The predicted salary is between 90000 - 120000 £ per year.
We have an exciting new opportunity for a full-time Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry and Lead in Memory Services working for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be a 2-year fixed-term contract, full-time (10 programmed activities per week), with potential for extension, at the second-largest hospital in Northern Ireland with teaching hospital status.
The post-holder will provide consultant medical input to the Memory Diagnostic Service, including assessment and diagnosis in collaboration with other professionals, and liaise with other medical services in complex cases.
They will work closely with the older people’s community mental health team to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with dementia and mental health problems in outpatient clinics, including reviewing patients who cannot attend clinics within the locality.
The post-holder will collaborate with colleagues to provide the Memory Assessment Service, offering diagnosis, assessment, and management alongside other professionals.
They will also contribute to teaching and clinical supervision for medical students, postgraduate trainees, and others involved in caring for older people with dementia and mental illnesses, including supervision of postgraduate trainees and multidisciplinary team members, such as SAS Doctors.

Key Requirements:
- Full GMC registration and a license to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR, or European Community Rights.
Or
- On the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry with at least 18 months’ experience as a consultant in old age psychiatry within the last 3 years (with satisfactory appraisal).
- At least 7 years post-registration experience, including 5 years in psychiatry and 3 years of Higher Professional Training (or equivalent), with 2 years in old age psychiatry.
Hold a valid UK driving license (International License valid for 1 year).
Desirable qualifications include: Higher Degree, Management Qualification, Publications/Research, formal psychotherapy qualification, formal educational qualification, involvement in high-quality audit or Quality Improvement work.
