We are seeking a Consultant Medical Microbiologist to work for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This is a 2-year fixed-term contract for full-time employment (10 programmed activities per week), with the potential for extension. The position is based at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland, which has teaching hospital status. The successful candidate will join an existing team of two Consultant Medical Microbiologists. There is an opportunity, if desired, to undertake two Academic (research or teaching) PAs per week in the School of Medicine at Ulster University, with appropriate honorary academic status at senior lecturer or professorial level. This role offers an exciting chance to develop research or teaching interests in collaboration with academic colleagues at Ulster University.

Requirements

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent experience and training.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR, or European Community Rights.
  • Training in clinical and laboratory Microbiology with at least 6 years of satisfactory medical practice since graduation, including no less than 4 years in medical microbiology with clinical responsibility.
  • Wide experience in all aspects of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control.
  • Applicants interested in academic sessions at Ulster University should hold a higher degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent).
  • Good clinical competence and strong communication skills with patients, colleagues, clinicians, practitioners, and junior staff.
