Job Description

CONSULTANT – GENERAL ADULT PSYCHIATRY

We have an exciting new opportunity for a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist (General Adult Psychiatry) working for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This is a 2-year fixed-term contract, working full time (10 programmed activities per week), with potential for extension, at the second-largest hospital in Northern Ireland, which has teaching hospital status.

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team comprising 1 Specialty Doctor, 1 CT/GP/F2 trainee, In-patient, and Crisis Response teams.

The post holder, in collaboration with clinical colleagues and managers, will help develop a comprehensive treatment service aimed at delivering high-quality, evidence-based mental health care.

The post holder will participate in clinical, multi-professional, and medical audits. They will also contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activities within the Trust, including teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties. Participation in quality enhancement, service evaluation projects, and research relevant to service improvement is encouraged.

Key Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR, or European Community Rights.

Additional requirements include:

  • At least 7 years post-registration experience, including 5 years in psychiatry and 3 years of Higher Professional Training.
  • MRCPsych qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience with modern psychiatric concepts, psychological treatments, pharmacology, and community-based mental health treatment.
  • Valid UK driving license (International License valid for 1 year).

Salary: £106,424 to £139,920 per annum
