An established and growing healthcare provider is seeking a dedicated Theatre Practitioner to join its specialist surgical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a registered healthcare professional with theatre experience to work within a high-quality elective surgical environment, supporting patients throughout their perioperative journey. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate patient care, from pre-operative assessment through to discharge. Working closely with the Theatre Lead and multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of theatre services while maintaining the highest clinical standards. Please note that this role involves a fast-paced environment with frequent patient turnover and some physical demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-operative telephone assessments to confirm patient suitability for surgery.
- Safely admit patients on the day of their procedure, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Provide patient education, reassurance, and support before and after surgery.
- Monitor and assess patients throughout their surgical pathway, escalating concerns when appropriate.
- Ensure patients meet discharge criteria and receive comprehensive aftercare information.
- Assist with patient preparation and support theatre procedures (specialist training provided where required).
- Participate in recognised surgical safety processes and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
- Support the effective management of theatre lists and patient flow.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.
- Contribute to stock management, equipment checks, and resource planning.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, clinicians, and wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- Support clinical governance, audit activity, incident reporting, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current professional registration (NMC or HCPC).
- Previous experience within a theatre, surgical, recovery, or perioperative environment.
- Strong patient assessment and communication skills.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a busy clinical setting.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, clinical governance, and patient safety principles.
- A proactive approach to teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Experience within ophthalmology is advantageous but not essential, as training can be provided.
