We are seeking a Consultant Medical Microbiologist to work for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be for a 2 year fixed term contract, to work full time (10 programmed activities per week), with the potential to extend, at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland (with teaching hospital status).
The successful candidate will join an existing team of two Consultant Medical Microbiologists. The successful candidate will, if desired, have the opportunity of undertaking two Academic (research or teaching) PAs per week in the School of Medicine at Ulster University (with appropriate honorary academic status at senior lecturer or professorial level as appropriate). This is an exciting opportunity to join an established microbiology team and to develop research or teaching interests in collaboration with academic colleagues at Ulster University.
Requirements:
- Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or have equivalent experience and training.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
- Must have trained in clinical and laboratory Microbiology.
- Must have at least 6 years satisfactory experience in the practice of medicine since graduation, of which no less than 4 years must be in medical microbiology, in posts with clinical responsibility.
- Wide general experience in all aspects of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control.
- Applicants wishing to avail of the option of academic sessions at Ulster University should have a higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Be able to demonstrate a good level of clinical competence and an ability to communicate with patients, colleagues, other clinicians, practitioners and junior staff.
