We are looking to recruit a full time Consultant in Gastroenterology with General Internal Medicine working for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be for a 2-year fixed term contract, to work full time (10 programmed activities per week), with the potential to extend, at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland, with teaching hospital status.
The successful candidate will share in the collective responsibility for the provision of Acute Medical services and provide specialist inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology services. He/she will be part of a team of 3 Consultants in Gastroenterology providing additional outpatient and endoscopy services at another hospital site. He/she will contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and participation in clinical and social care governance. The post-holder’s prime responsibility is for patient care, best diagnosis and team leadership. The successful applicant will also be involved in Clinical Governance, education and training.
Key Requirements:
- Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
- Fulfil British Society of Gastroenterology and Joint Advisory Group (in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) criteria for training as an independent operator in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
- Knowledge of Global Rating Scale, Endoscopy Standards, Screening, Waiting time targets.
- Knowledge of organisation of Cancer Services, management of Acute Medical conditions including Neurology/Cardiology/Metabolic Medicine and Respiratory Disease and a Range of knowledge of acute and chronic Gastroenterological diseases including proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools (e.g. Endoscopy, Colonoscopy).
It would be desirable to have:
- MRCP, Higher qualifications eg MD, PhD, publications/Research, knowledge of Primary/Secondary interface management of chronic gastroenterological conditions.
