We have an exciting new opportunity for a full time Consultant Endocrinology and Diabetes working for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This will be for a 2-year fixed term contract, to work full time (10 programmed activities per week), with the potential to extend, at the second largest hospital in Northern Ireland, with teaching hospital status.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team and a department of three full time consultant physicians in Endocrinology and Diabetes and a consultant Chemical Pathologist with an interest in Diabetes. The post holder will provide outpatient and inpatient service in Endocrinology and Diabetes. An additional opportunity is to supply a sub-specialty osteoporosis clinic, for secondary prevention and more complicated cases of primary prevention in close liaison with the Trauma & Orthopaedic service and a Consultant Rheumatologist with a speciality interest in osteoporosis.

The job role will be to share in the collective responsibility for the provision of endocrinology, diabetes and general medical services, and assist in further developing these services within the hospital and Trust. To contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and participation in clinical and social care governance. The post holder will play a significant role in medical education, will be expected to participate fully in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and to promote knowledge of the specialty of Endocrinology & Diabetes amongst colleagues in the Trust.

Key Requirements:

  • Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Endocrinology & Diabetes and General Internal Medicine via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
  • Knowledge of Acute and Chronic Endocrinology & Diabetes conditions including osteoporosis.
  • Understanding of management issues including medical discipline, Clinical Governance, Service Planning.
  • It would be desirable to have Higher Qualifications e.g. MD, PhD, experience in managing patients with osteoporosis, publications/presentations.
