Xander Medical is a trusted healthcare staffing agency dedicated to providing high-quality support to NHS mental health services and mental health-focused care environments. We are currently recruiting experienced and compassionate Health Care Assistants (HCAs) to join our expanding team across Birmingham, working strictly within mental health settings.

As a Band 2 Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting patients with a range of mental health needs. You will assist with personal care, daily living tasks, observations, and therapeutic support within settings such as NHS mental health units, specialist care homes, and supported living environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and emotional support to service users
  • Assist with daily activities including meals, hygiene, and mobility
  • Maintain dignity, respect, and a person-centred approach
  • Support patients experiencing complex mental health challenges
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
  • Accurately record and report observations as required

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months UK experience in a mental health care setting
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Up-to-date mandatory training (PMVA/MAPA or equivalent desirable)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, compassionate, and committed to high-quality care
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
