Purpose of Role
Responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation that is used to support the use and maintenance of products, services, and systems. To work closely with product development teams, engineers, and other subject matter experts to gather the information needed to create accurate and effective documentation. To be able to use CAD and other graphic design packages or collaborate with graphic designers and illustrators to create visually appealing documents. This is a key role in ensuring that end-users are able to understand and effectively use the products and services that they have purchased.
Scale

  • Working cross functionally to produce clear, easily understandable documentation to enable customers to integrate Xaar technology quickly and easily.
  • The perception a customer has of the business is influenced by the quality of the technical documentation.
  • Ensure the Xaar document management system has the latest documents and our customers can easily access them and know they are there.
  • Look at innovative ways of communicating complex technical information through the use of video and animation.
  • Representing Xaar through high quality documentation.
Freedom to make decisions
  • Understand the requirements and make suitable recommendations as to how best to convey complex technical information.
  • Recommend ideas to improve the customer experience.
  • Identify poor or ineffective processes and make recommendations for improvement.
Complexity
  • Translate complex technical information into clear and concise text.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to gather information and ensure content accuracy.
  • Dealing with conflicting priorities.

  • Working with project managers and engineers typically 3 months.
Key Accountabilities
On a typical day you’ll be expected to:
  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, system operation guides, and installation instructions
  • Ensure technical documentation meets industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Edit and update existing documents to reflect current information
  • Create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to complement written content
  • Maintain documentation project schedules and manage content deadlines
  • Conduct thorough research to understand products and processes
  • Work with graphic designers to integrate visual elements into documentation
  • Test products and tools to verify the accuracy of content
  • Review and edit work from other writers for consistency and accuracy
  • Utilise content management systems to organize and publish documentation
  • Assist in developing training materials and e-learning content
  • Participate in peer reviews and provide constructive feedback
Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications
  • NVQ4+ / HNC / HND / BSc / BEng Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with technical writing for software or hardware industries
  • Previous experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Previous experience in a scientific or engineering field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation software
  • Proficient in technical writing and editing
  • Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar software
  • Familiarity with version control systems
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and other web technologies
