Purpose of Role
Responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation that is used to support the use and maintenance of products, services, and systems. To work closely with product development teams, engineers, and other subject matter experts to gather the information needed to create accurate and effective documentation. This is a key role in ensuring that end-users are able to understand and effectively use the products and services that they have purchased.
Key Accountabilities
On a typical day you’ll be expected to:
- Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, system operation guides, and installation instructions
- Ensure technical documentation meets industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Edit and update existing documents to reflect current information
- Create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to complement written content
- Maintain documentation project schedules and manage content deadlines
- Conduct thorough research to understand products and processes
- Work with graphic designers to integrate visual elements into documentation
- Test products and tools to verify the accuracy of content
- Review and edit work from other writers for consistency and accuracy
- Utilise content management systems to organize and publish documentation
- Assist in developing training materials and e-learning content
- Participate in peer reviews and provide constructive feedback
Knowledge, experience and qualifications
- NVQ4+ / HNC / HND / BSc / BEng Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with technical writing for software or hardware industries
- Previous experience working in an Agile development environment
- Previous experience in a scientific or engineering field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation software
- Proficient in technical writing and editing
- Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar software
- Familiarity with version control systems
- Experience with content management systems
- Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and other web technologies
