We are looking for a highly capable FPGA Firmware Engineer to join a team developing advanced high-performance digital signal processing and RF systems. This role would suit an engineer who thrives on solving technically complex challenges across SDR, DSP and high-speed digital design. You will work on sophisticated FPGA-based platforms used in demanding real-world applications, contributing to architecture, implementation, verification and system integration.
Key Responsibilities
- FPGA firmware development using VHDL/Verilog for complex DSP and RF systems
- Design and implementation of SDR and digital RF processing chains
- Development of DSP algorithms including IQ modulation, filtering, mixing, correlation and FFT processing
- FPGA verification, simulation and hardware bring-up
- Work with modern Xilinx platforms including RFSoC, MPSoC and Ultrascale devices
- Collaborate across firmware, hardware and systems engineering teams
- Support automated test and validation environments using Python and related tooling
- Contribute to technical leadership, standards and architectural decisions
Required Experience
- Strong commercial FPGA development experience using VHDL and/or Verilog
- Experience with Xilinx FPGA technologies including Vivado toolchains
- Strong DSP knowledge including RF signal processing techniques
- Experience working on SDR, communications, radar, aerospace or high-performance embedded systems
- Understanding of high-speed digital interfaces and system integration
- Experience with verification and test methodologies
- Comfortable working in Agile engineering environments using Git/JIRA/Confluence
Desirable Skills
- RFSoC or MPSoC experience
- MATLAB-based DSP or filter design
- Ethernet, memory controller or comms protocol experience
- Exposure to embedded software or Python scripting
- Hardware design or board-level debugging experience
- Team leadership or mentoring background
