ExceptionalX4 are partnered with a well-backed, globally expanding commodities trading firm to appoint an experienced Head of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs into a high-impact position at the centre of their international trading operation.
You'll operate at the intersection of regulation, commodities trading, commercial strategy and geopolitics, with a remit spanning UK, European, Far East and US physical and financial energy markets. With close exposure to senior leadership, the trading floor and key regulatory stakeholders, you'll have a genuine seat at the table in shaping their approach to compliance strategy across some of the world’s most important energy markets.
The role has a strong regulatory affairs focus, covering FCA, MiFID, EMIR and market abuse, alongside direct engagement with regulators and oversight of regulatory developments across multiple jurisdictions. You’ll assess the commercial impact of regulatory change, shape policy/controls and provide the strategic insight needed to keep the business ahead of a fast-moving, increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

Responsibilities:
- Own regulatory strategy across UK/European, US and Far East physical and financial energy markets, including regulatory engagement and horizon scanning.
- Lead regulatory change programmes, partnering with senior management, commercial and operational teams to implement new requirements.
- Provide expert advice across FCA, MiFID, EMIR, market abuse and wider commodities regulation.
- Drive compliance controls and oversight, including trade surveillance, communications monitoring, policies and regulatory frameworks.
- Monitor political and regulatory developments, translating complex issues into clear commercial advice and briefings for senior stakeholders.
Requirements:
- 10+ years' experience in compliance or regulatory affairs within commodities / energy trading.
- Strong understanding of physical and financial commodities markets, particularly oil trading.
- Proven experience across FCA, MiFID, EMIR, market abuse and direct engagement with financial regulators.
- Experience designing and implementing compliance programmes, regulatory frameworks and regulatory change.
- Strong communicator and relationship builder who can operate confidently with senior management, traders, regulators and commercial stakeholders.
The comp package is very strong, with flexibility to secure the right candidate into what is a pivotal role. It's hybrid, with 3 days per week in stunning London offices, with interviews being lined up from w/c 17th August.
