Role & Responsibilities
- Commission, test and integrate telecommunications transmission equipment, ensuring SDH/PDH, Ethernet and optical services are delivered in accordance with design specifications.
- Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches, supporting LAN, WAN and transmission network connectivity across operational sites.
- Carry out end-to-end testing, fault finding and service validation across transmission, fibre and IP networks, resolving issues before handover into service.
- Work closely with design engineers, field engineers and project teams to deliver network upgrades, migrations and new telecom infrastructure installations.
- Produce commissioning records, test documentation and technical reports while ensuring all work complies with customer standards, safety procedures and quality requirements.
Required Experience
- Strong experience working with telecommunications transmission networks, including SDH, PDH, Ethernet over SDH and optical transport technologies.
- Proven experience commissioning, integrating or supporting telecom transmission equipment from vendors such as Nokia, Ericsson, Ciena, Marconi, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei or similar.
- Good understanding of IP networking, including Cisco IOS, routing, switching, VLANs and WAN technologies, with the ability to troubleshoot across both transmission and IP layers.
- Experience working with telecom protocols and services such as E1/T1, STM, MPLS, Ethernet, fibre optics, timing/synchronisation and circuit provisioning.
- Ability to interpret network designs, commissioning documentation and test results, with experience working on live carrier, utility or critical national infrastructure networks.
