A highly specialised and innovative wireless telecommunications company based in Cambridge is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join its leadership team.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the technology strategy for a business operating at the forefront of wireless communications. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the company's products, technology roadmap, and engineering function.
Bluetooth expertise is absolutely central to this position. We are specifically seeking an individual with deep, hands-on experience of Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies, including a detailed understanding of the Bluetooth protocol stack, radio operation, and the development of embedded software for Bluetooth-enabled chipsets and devices.
Whilst previous CTO experience is desirable, we are equally keen to hear from senior technical leaders looking to take their first step into a CTO role. Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the company's technology vision and product roadmap.
- Lead the development of next-generation wireless communication products.
- Provide strategic and technical leadership across hardware, firmware, embedded software, FPGA, DSP, and radio engineering disciplines.
- Act as the company's subject matter expert for Bluetooth and wireless communication technologies.
- Work closely with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to translate market requirements into product strategy.
- Drive innovation, technical excellence, and engineering best practice across the organisation.
- Mentor and develop engineering teams whilst maintaining strong technical involvement in key projects.
Bluetooth Expertise (Critical Requirement)
The successful candidate must demonstrate significant commercial experience in Bluetooth technologies, including:
- Deep understanding of Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
- Detailed knowledge of the complete Bluetooth protocol stack.
- Experience developing embedded software for Bluetooth chipsets and devices.
- Strong understanding of Bluetooth radio operation and wireless communications principles.
- Experience troubleshooting, optimising, and validating Bluetooth-based products.
- Ability to make architectural decisions relating to Bluetooth-enabled products and platforms.
Additional Technical Requirements
- Strong understanding of radio communications and RF systems.
- Expertise in modulation schemes and physical layer communications.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA and/or DSP-based radio implementations.
- Experience with physical layer testing, validation, and performance measurement.
- Proven experience defining and delivering product and technology roadmaps.
- Broad systems-level understanding spanning hardware, firmware, software, and wireless communications.
- Ability to remain technically hands-on whilst operating at a strategic leadership level.
- Previous CTO, VP Engineering, Technical Director, Chief Architect, or Head of Engineering experience.
- Telecommunications, wireless technology, semiconductor, or deep-tech industry background.
- Experience taking complex wireless products from concept through to commercial deployment.
- Experience working within innovative SME or growth-stage technology businesses.
