About the Role

At Wyre, we take pride in the maintenance and presentation of our parks, open spaces, and cemeteries. To support this work, we are looking to recruit a Gardener who will help maintain our landscaped areas to the high standards our communities expect.

This is a hands‑on role working as part of a dedicated team responsible for the day‑to‑day upkeep of the borough’s green spaces. You will assist the Area Team Leader in delivering a high‑quality service across parks, open spaces, and cemeteries, ensuring these areas remain safe, attractive, and welcoming for residents and visitors.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain parks, open spaces, cemeteries, and landscaped areas to agreed standards.

  • Use a range of grounds maintenance equipment, including hand tools, portable appliances, and ride‑on mowers.

  • Carry out general horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks across the borough.

  • Provide a uniformed, professional presence while undertaking duties.

  • Work effectively as part of a team to meet service standards.

  • Support safe working practices and contribute to a positive health and safety culture.

  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience maintaining parks, open spaces, or similar environments.

  • Understanding of good customer care practices.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Physically able to undertake the duties of the role.

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and the Council’s values.

  • Reliable and able to demonstrate a consistent standard of service.

  • IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent).

  • Experience operating ride‑on mowers and grounds maintenance equipment.

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or significant relevant experience.

  • Understanding of fine turf and sports pitch maintenance.

What you’ll get in return:

  • The opportunity to work outdoors in a role that directly contributes to the appearance and enjoyment of Wyre’s green spaces.

  • Training and development opportunities, including grounds maintenance skills and equipment use.

  • A competitive salary with employer pension contributions.

  • 24 days annual leave rising to 29 days depending on length of service, plus bank holidays.

  • A supportive team environment where you can develop and grow.
