Are you interested in working as part of a friendly, supportive IT team that values collaboration and growth? As an ICT Apprentice you will become part of our ServiceDesk Team, the first point of contact for staff across the council when facing IT issues. You will be guided and supported throughout your apprenticeship by various members of the team and will learn the technical skills required to keep our IT systems running smoothly and set you up for a future in the digital world.

Our team provide IT services and support to approximately 350 council officers. Our IT services operate upon industry leading cloud services and infrastructure in a Microsoft environment, as well as more traditional physical hardware and virtualisation platforms. Our team also support many other bespoke solutions and software that will ensure you will never be short of something new to learn. All our support is provided in-house by our own technicians and engineers, therefore offering a great opportunity to experience the true variety on offer working in an IT role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to learn and get hands-on in the workplace, whilst also working towards an industry recognised qualification. You will be qualified at grade C or above in at least 5 GCSE’s, including ICT, or you will hold a higher-level ICT qualification. We welcome applications from individuals who already hold a relevant qualification and will consider supporting training at a higher level for the right candidate.

During your apprenticeship you will:

  • Learn to provide excellent customer service to Council Employees and associates regarding IT issues.
  • Work with our ITIL compliant IT Service Management (ITSM) ticket system, owning tickets from start to end.
  • Be taught how to report, and help to resolve IT Security, Cloud, Communication and Infrastructure incidents.
  • Learn how to log and manage services requests.
  • Develop the skills needed to troubleshoot and resolve issues through a variety of different methods, including remote support.
  • Be taught to prepare, test and deploy new equipment.
  • Learn how to support many specialist software platforms used by various departments across the Council.
  • Be trained on modern Microsoft infrastructure including EntraID, Exchange Online and Intune.
  • Develop an understanding of cyber security and safe IT working practices.
  • Resolve issues on various hardware including laptops, mobile phones and servers.
  • Learn how to troubleshoot issues on ethernet and wireless networks.
  • Be given the opportunity to work with modern technologies such as Copilot AI.
  • Gain a wealth of experience and knowledge working with an energetic and passionate team.
