About the Role
At Wyre, we take pride in the maintenance and presentation of our parks, open spaces, and cemeteries. To support this work, we are looking to recruit a Gardener who will help maintain our landscaped areas to the high standards our communities expect. This is a hands‑on role working as part of a dedicated team responsible for the day‑to‑day upkeep of the borough’s green spaces. You will assist the Area Team Leader in delivering a high‑quality service across parks, open spaces and cemeteries, ensuring these areas remain safe, attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain parks, open spaces, cemeteries and landscaped areas to agreed standards.
- Use a range of grounds maintenance equipment, including hand tools, portable appliances and ride‑on mowers.
- Carry out general horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks across the borough.
- Provide a uniformed, professional presence while undertaking duties.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet service standards.
- Support safe working practices and contribute to a positive health and safety culture.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience maintaining parks, open spaces or similar environments.
- Understanding of good customer care practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Physically able to undertake the duties of the role.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and the Council’s values.
- Reliable and able to demonstrate a consistent standard of service.
- IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent).
- Experience operating ride‑on mowers and grounds maintenance equipment.
- NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or significant relevant experience.
- Understanding of fine turf and sports pitch maintenance.
