What You\’ll Be Doing: The Impact

We’re looking for a proactive officer to manage a varied and challenging caseload. You will be empowered to take ownership of complex environmental issues, supported by a dedicated and collaborative team.

  • Frontline Investigations: Lead on service complaints and scheduled inspections related to noise, drainage, contaminated land, and statutory nuisance.
  • Permitting & Planning: Process applications/variations for Environmental Permitting and provide expert consultation responses on planning and licensing submissions.
  • Enforcement & Justice: Draft and serve formal notices, prepare comprehensive legal case files, and represent the council in legal proceedings where necessary.
  • Community Advisor: Act as a trusted source of advice, interpreting complex legislation for the public and local businesses, and collaborating with external agencies.
  • Strategic Input: Contribute to corporate projects within the Council, ensuring the Environmental Protection & Community Safety Team meets its key service objectives.

What We\’re Looking For (Your Skills & Qualifications)

You must meet the essential criteria below. We highly value initiative, a flexible approach, and a commitment to our Customer Focused values.

Essential:

  • A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health.
  • EHORB Registered.
  • Detailed and comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Protection and associated legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports and use your initiative to work effectively without constant supervision.
  • A full UK Driving Licence and ownership of an acceptable means of mobility throughout the Borough.

Desirable:

(Helpful, but not essential):

  • Experience across all aspects of Environmental Protection.
  • A Noise Diploma or similar qualification.
  • Experience in inspecting and regulating installations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
