Role Overview:

Wynnstay Group is seeking an experienced poultry professional to join our team as a Poultry Technical Specialist. Providing practical, on farm support to poultry producers across a designated trading area.

You’ll work directly with customers to support flock health, welfare, performance and productivity, using your technical knowledge to provide recommendations tailored to each farm and production system. Through regular on-farm visits, you’ll build a detailed understanding of individual enterprises, identify areas for improvement and help producers achieve the best possible outcomes from their poultry businesses.

You’ll provide technical guidance across poultry nutrition, feed programmes, pullet placement, flock management and compliance. From supporting the arrival of new pullet flocks to assisting with sampling and monitoring performance, you’ll be a trusted and accessible point of contact throughout the production cycle.

Working closely with Wynnstay’s poultry sales team, suppliers and wider technical colleagues, you’ll share insight, support customer retention and ensure that technical recommendations are practical, commercially considered and aligned with industry best practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong practical poultry knowledge who enjoys working directly with farmers, solving problems and translating technical information into clear, actionable advice.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing specialist technical advice and practical on-farm support to poultry producers within a designated trading area.

  • Developing strong relationships with customers and becoming a trusted point of contact for poultry nutrition, flock management and performance enquiries.

  • Conducting regular farm visits to review flock performance, identify challenges and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Supporting customers with poultry feed programmes, product selection and the effective use of associated products and equipment.

  • Monitoring flock health, welfare, productivity and feed performance, using available information to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Assisting producers with the preparation for, delivery and placement of new pullet flocks.

  • Supporting customer compliance activities, including sampling, swabbing, record-keeping and preparation for relevant audits.

  • Investigating technical queries and performance concerns, working with internal colleagues, suppliers and other specialists where appropriate.

  • Communicating technical developments, industry guidance and best practice clearly to customers and colleagues.

  • Delivering technical presentations, training and knowledge-sharing sessions for customers and internal teams when required.

  • Working closely with sales colleagues to support customer retention, strengthen account relationships and identify appropriate opportunities for additional support.

  • Contributing technical knowledge to the development and continuous improvement of Wynnstay’s poultry product and service offering.

  • Maintaining accurate farm visit notes, customer records, technical reports and follow-up actions.

  • Identifying and promptly escalating animal welfare, compliance, product-performance or operational concerns to the appropriate senior colleague.

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

  • Strong practical experience within the poultry sector and a thorough understanding of poultry production systems.

  • Sound knowledge of flock health, welfare, nutrition, performance and on-farm management.

  • A strong commitment to customer service and developing trusted, long-term relationships with poultry producers.

  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.

  • The confidence to explain technical information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

  • An analytical and methodical approach to reviewing flock information, identifying trends and resolving problems.

  • An approachable and professional manner, with the confidence to represent Wynnstay positively on farm and across the wider industry.

  • The ability to manage an independent workload and travel regularly across a designated trading area.
