Role Overview - This role is covering the Midlands and South UK. This new position supports ongoing growth by strengthening the existing team. The Automation Sales Engineer will drive business development for automation hardware, software, analytics, and edge solutions, as well as other products within the automation portfolio. The role involves engaging directly with customers and supporting those served through distribution, with a focus on target growth and emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business and deliver year-on-year sales growth through design-in activities with customers, end users, and systems integrators.
  • Support colleagues and partners within the defined southern territory.
  • Collaborate closely with both UK-based and international teams, as well as appointed partners.
  • Deliver sales growth and manage a progressive pipeline across automation hardware, software, and related solutions.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in both project and serial production environments.
  • Support automation-focused sales projects, customer demonstrations, training, and events.
  • Collaborate with territory teams, business development managers, and systems integrators on design-in activities and solution delivery.
  • Engage with key decision-makers to secure short-, medium-, and long-term automation opportunities.
  • Contribute to marketing campaigns, product launches, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and provide regular activity and performance reporting.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in industrial automation or edge solution sales.
  • Technical qualification (HNC or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of automation architectures, PLC programming (IEC61131-3; Codesys desirable), visualisation/SCADA tools, and industrial Ethernet.
  • Awareness of open platforms and protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Docker, Node-RED, MQTT, web technologies).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and adaptable, with a logical, solutions-driven mindset.
  • Able to build strong relationships at senior levels and thrive in a changing environment.
