Overview
Due to the continued growth and development of DUS within the company, the number of active contracts is steadily increasing. My clients are now seeking a dedicated Health, Safety & Welfare Officer to work closely with our site-based workforce and project delivery team. This role is essential in ensuring that high standards of Health, Safety and Welfare are consistently monitored, maintained, and promoted across all projects.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, confident working on construction sites, and able to communicate effectively with teams at all levels. This is a hands-on role with a strong presence on site, supported by hybrid working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with site teams and the project delivery team to promote a strong Health, Safety & Welfare culture.
- Visit multiple construction sites across the Preston area on a regular basis to monitor compliance and provide guidance.
- Assist in the preparation, completion, and submission of Health & Safety documentation required by clients at the start of each project.
- Conduct ongoing site inspections to ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Support the implementation of safe working practices and ensure all site personnel understand their responsibilities.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to site teams and management.
- Maintain accurate records of site visits, observations, and actions taken.
- Act as a point of contact for Health & Safety matters across active projects.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in a Health & Safety role within construction, engineering, or a related environment (preferred but not essential if training is provided).
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety principles and site practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal (on-site) and written (documentation and email).
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritise multiple site visits.
- Confident engaging with site operatives, supervisors, and project managers.
- Full UK driving licence (company transport provided).
Desirable Qualifications - (Not essential but beneficial — can be trained or supported)
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Experience preparing RAMS or other H&S documentation
- Previous experience in a site-based or compliance-focused role
