We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused General Manager to lead our FMCG food manufacturing operation based in Scotland. The General Manager will have full responsibility for site performance, including operations, people management, financial results, food safety, quality, and continuous improvement. This is a senior leadership role requiring a hands-on, visible leader with strong experience in FMCG manufacturing environments and a proven ability to manage and develop teams of around 70 people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the manufacturing site, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
- Drive operational excellence across production, engineering, supply chain, quality, and hygiene.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety standards, BRCGS, HACCP, and all relevant UK legislation.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a workforce of approximately 70 employees.
- Build a strong leadership culture through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Foster high engagement, accountability, and a positive site culture aligned with company values.
- Own the site P&L, budgets, and cost control, ensuring delivery of financial targets.
- Identify and deliver opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and margin enhancement.
- Work closely with commercial teams to support customer requirements and service levels.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, CI, or similar methodologies.
- Drive productivity, yield, waste reduction, and OEE improvements.
- Lead change effectively, ensuring buy-in and sustainable results.
- Act as a key interface with customers, auditors, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure consistently high levels of service, quality, and compliance expected in FMCG environments.
- Represent the business professionally at all times.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a General Manager, Site Manager, or Operations Director within FMCG food manufacturing.
- Experience managing a workforce of circa 70 people in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Commercially astute with solid financial and P&L management experience.
- Track record of driving operational improvement and leading change.
- Experience working with major UK retailers or branded FMCG customers.
- Formal leadership or management qualifications.
